Trying to get RF well actually dash faction going on my retro dual socket XP 64 system and yes I have installed vc 2015 redist but now get this error.

not considering PF or PF gold as they are completely broken on my system. player floats around like a balloon in the air bouncing off stuff, no guns or arms and glitching textures and echo/buzzing sound. Both do it so I want to get DF going instead as it has been far more compatible with older period hardware and OS.

I tried normal RF and get some error about out of packfile space.

Any ideas?

This makes me curious as I've never seen this behaviour before. Can you grab a video showing what's happening?

As for Dash, have you tried launching the game directly, rather than through the launcher? The error appears to be in the launcher. You might need to launch the original RF launcher (or the PF launcher) before launching the game though, to set the required registry keys (resolution, etc.)

I got PF to work in the end. I had to set as either 95 or 98 compatibility mode in xp 64/server 2003x64 and then it runs. However I seem to have issues with the audio. I fixed the buzzing though.

I specifically got a Xonar card since EAX never worked on any game on any os with any driver on any of the creative cards except win 2k with live 24 bit with the CD drivers.

So I got the xonar now and EAX works great if you turn of the GX "EAX" emulator and just allow the game's native EAX run as is on the Xonar as they do support it and I can report it works great on all other games and does ok on PF, except it seems excessive in many maps but ones with actual EAX added to the map works great, differnt rooms and areas sound different as it should.

The issue is all sound starts to disappear after 5 min or so and eventually stops all together. Does it every round I play, but I suspect it relates to the first issue of not running right and having to use compatibility.

I can tell you holy crap does it sound awesome with working EAX (sort of working lol) it's been somewhere over 15 years since I last heard it working.

I still would prefer DF as it has more graphics and settings options on the launcher but PF is fine if that's the only option.
