I've just re-installed 3Ds Max 5. My plan is to possibly finish up some of my old mods. Be good practice in low poly modelling.

I figure I'm going to hit multiple issues and stumbling blocks along the way and have questions. I figured in case anyone else ever decides to do this, it would be handy to have it documented somewhere along with the solutions I have found.

So without further delay...

Issue 1.
C-Dilla not compatible with Windows 7 x64.

Basically I can't/couldn't get it working at all. Eventually I managed to find a work around. I'm not sure what part of the process fixed it as it still gave errors, but now its started loading!

First part, is that it must be installed via Network License, instead of Standalone copy.
Once installing the Network License server tools, you then need to run the Wizard.

It involves setting up a network share on your machine to deploy the installation files to.
Once the wizard is complete, run the setup.exe from the above share.
It is likely you will still encounter a License error. You then need to point 3Ds Max to a license file. (you might already have this file, if not you need to create the file.)

The details of the overall fix is listed here:

I may very well write this up, if needed or at the very least, backup the process!

Issue 2.
Unwrapping UVW

My god, I've spent several hours trying to figure this one out!
From what I've seen you can "unfold" the mesh if its simplistic enough, but have seen several guides on doing it in newer versions of 3Ds Max and Maya, but can't seem to get it to behave properly!
Would love to know how the other guys used to do it! :-/ To boot, I can't find the "Render UVW Template" bit, which I'm wondering if v5 didn't include it!

Any advice/help appreciated at the minute!

This is all that I've found. I am very sure it is useless.

I doubt anyone who could answer your question is still lurking around. I think D2k showed me how to make a teapot in 3DSMax once and I'm pretty sure that's a default shape.

Superb! Thanks dude! I was literally killing myself as I couldn't find the "export" function, so ended up trying all sorts! It doesn't help with the unwrapping as such, but it does solve my next problem of exporting the image as a template which I have spent a long time looking for! :D

Thanks!

BTW: The teapot is indeed a default shape!
