Hi there.
i come from Deus Ex multiplayer which suffered a slow death since the mid 2000's.
The Gamespy shutdown finally killed it.
An alternative was set up, but the only good servers are run by two cheaters & bug abusers who are disgusting at proper admin and are disliked by much of the remaining community.
The # of players dropped from say 35 in 2011-2013 to probably less than 10 in total now.
the bottom 2 servers are run by the cheaters, thankfully my clanmate HeY put up his one again.
i played it since 2010 (save a short period in 2005 when i had a tiny bit of a connection), even then, most veterans from early 2000's say that it was already dead.
I used to play RF with a mate on PS2 and tried several times to get online on the PC version, i always just assumed it died out, before i found PureFaction last year.
i'm on skype and steam most days.

I didn't know Deus Ex had netplay. Neato. Welcome to RF.
RF is pretty small nowadays but there's definitely more than 10 players. If I sat here the rest of the night I could probably count 11 or so.

Thanks for sharing. It's always interesting to hear about weird little isolated communities like RF's.

Haha Deus Ex probably had a similar community to RF, at least I think so. Anyways, a bit late but welcome!

Yeah the Gamespy trackers going down hurt allot of games, for me it was the Halo Custom Edition servers. But I read that some people are working with a few employees at Bungie on a fix for that, so Im happy lol
Anywho, wellcome to RF,
Just to introduce you to rf multiplayer, you have your basic 3 types of games modes, DM - TDM - CTF. But over the course of many years a 4th type has evolved, its called Deathruns, basically its obstacle course maps. They are not like counter-strike Deathruns, they are a tad bit more skill intensive lol

siiick, sounds good! I wish i knew about pure faction when it first appeared, then maybe i could've played both games in multi when there was more activity going down
edit: funny random bit of info. i remember getting half decent at mapping in RED about the time that Lost series 1 was around, certainly was easier than using Unreal ED 1 for deus ex maps lol.
