Description
This is a map of a space hotel orbiting Jupiter, next to an asteroid.

It requires Dash Faction to run (https://dashfaction.com)

Check out the commercial video for this map here: https://youtu.be/5JimzJThul4

I've been slowly working on this map for the last 8 months. I decided to fire the editor up again after not touching it for about 14 years, to see if I could still remember how to use it and got hooked again. :P

Rant: Half the time was probably spent redoing things over and over in different ways until the level would stop breaking or would finally look right. Also redoing a lot of things I did at the beginning in a more optimized or better looking way at the end. RED's lighting is definitely the bane of my existence though. So many times lights decided just to ignore walls and cause light leaks everywhere or random hot spots or dark blotches for no reason or light 2 faces next to each other completely differently making a very obvious seam or overexpose some textures while underexposing others. Also constantly hitting some sort of lightmap resolution limit, which caused walls to render as invisible in game and forced me to set most things to low when I wanted them to be high or highest. Eventually I just gave up, so there are lighting imperfections everywhere. I don't remember having to fight with lighting this much before, but I was probably just much less of a perfectionist back then. :P

Thanks to Goober and the RF community for some tips along the way.

Notes:
This map comes with 47 min of music. There is a 2 min intro track, then if you want to access the rest or skip the intro track there are 2 playlists. The Chill playlist is 20min long and is all calm, more ambient like music and the Hard playlist is 25min long and heavier, more action like music. The playlists are controlled using the buttons on the jukebox in the middle of the station and is set up in a way that the buttons should only effect the person pushing them.

This map is a bit of a beast. It's around 4x RF's recommended limits as well as uses 1100+ default clutter objects, so may not run very smooth on older computers.
Pro Tip: If you need a FPS boost, open the console (~) and type vli and hit enter. This disables the light flare sprites around all the lights and gives a 10-20fps boost.
I tested on 3 computers:
-4K with 8xAA on an AMD Threadripper 3960x, 8GB Nvidia RTX 2070S, 128 GB DDR4 Ram, I get lows around 60FPS
-1080p with 4xAA on an Intel i3-12100, integrated Intel UHD 730 Graphics, 32GB DDR4 Ram, I get lows around 50FPS
-1080P with 4xAA on an Intel i7-970, 4GB Nvidia GTX 970, 12GB DDR3 Ram, I get lows around 30FPS

This map is pretty huge so it's going to be pretty slow paced unless you have a packed server. I have made a stripped down version for smaller player counts, which locks the players into the station, therefore cutting the play area in half and making for faster paced games. Download the locked In Edition here: https://www.factionfiles.com/ff.php?action=file&id=7795

Some credits:
-The ship trapped in the asteroid was originally made by {DVL} Shad0w for a single player campaign we were working on 15 years ago but never finished. It was originally 4x bigger so I had to scale it down and realign things to make it fit in the asteroid.
-The drop ship below the station and on the asteroid, the small ship that fly’s by, the sinks, and some doors are from the volition default RF Group pack, although I did change things on all of them.

This map should be it's own single player level! Crazy interactivity around every corner! The ping pong table is too flimsy! ; )

Love this map and it's concept. Very well constructed, scenic and detailed. Being able to take a shower was a level of immersion I never knew existed in this game lol.

I feel like this is one of those rare maps where it's all about exploration rather than frags. (Acer's Frostbite Heights and Shiverwolf Peak comes to mind...)

Fantastic work of art IAC!

This map is an absolute work of art. IAC, you've gone above and beyond in this to create not just a DM map but a fantastic immersive experience. Well done, very very well done, and I'm excited to both play this at GN, and play more creations from you in the future!

Also, man, the commercial you produced for this map has higher production quality than pretty much every official Red Faction video. Incredible work dude!

You were right, this map really does feel like home. I can imagine how incredibly expensive is to live in a space luxury hotel orbiting Jupiter. But the amount of effort, sweat and time put onto this is just beyond insanity. What a fantastic work you did DVL_IAC. Words cannot describe this masterpiece of a map made for deathmatch. ^^ Although like you said, you should scale it down the playground for less amount of players to enable fast-paced matches. However in this size, it's perfect when there will be another time to hit 32 players per server.

I love the chamber rooms where you sleep and relax and the control room above the station are what i liked the most, especially the skybox and the ships flying by. Hah i wish the NPCs worked in multi to give it some life, but you can't make things work always like you wish. The lighting in editor indeed is a pain to get it done the way we want, but there is no other way but to obey the limits.

All in all, great job man. Can't wait to play it in a packed multiplayer match! :!
