This is the pasture biome from mine and Phasmomancer's RFU8 Settlers of Catan map, extracted and converted into a stand-alone map. The theme for RFU8 was board games so we made a map based on the 6 biomes of Catan - Forests (Wood), Fields (Wheat), Pastures (Wool), Hills (Brick), Mountains (Ore), and Desert (Robber). ( https://www.factionfiles.com/ff.php?action=file&id=8229 ) The original map is huge, so only really works with 15+ players, so I'm slowly going through and converting each biome into its own map, which will work much better for smaller player counts.

The map has a day and night. It starts out as night and after about 2:37min it switches to day and unlocks the Barn and a ship appears at the end of the dock, for new play areas.

Changes from original:
- Top area opened up for gameplay.
- Added 2 more trees, 2 more boulders and 3 more bushes for more cover.
- More respawn points.
- More items.
- Added a campfire and benches near the beach. At night the fire is lit with logs and during the day it is just ash with a little bit of smoke.
- Added cave-ins to the end of all the tunnels, to give a logical reason why players can no longer travel between biomes.
- Skyboxes instead of sky meshes, so the edge of the sky feels further away and ocean looks bigger. However, now the skies won't be blended with the haze.
- Higher resolution skyboxes.
- Darkened ambient light and shadows about 25%.
- Higher quality music.
- New night music track.
- Music doesn't loop anymore.
- Higher lightmap resolution.
- Made the haze a little thicker.
- Fixed the sometimes being able to collide with the hidden deer and sheep meshes at night.
- Moved the damage amp.

Notes:
- This is not a high performance map due to all the custom meshes. At night I get lows around 200fps and daytime lows around 180fps, and that's without any other players.
- This map requires Alpine Faction v1.1 or newer ( https://alpinefaction.com ) to run.

Bugs:

- If you have your music volume setting turned all the way down before loading the map, the intro track wont play, even if you turn the setting back up after loading the map. It needs to have some volume prior to loading for the intro music to work.

Willson · 9 hours ago · 0 User Rating: 👍 Recommended!   I didn't get below 230 FPS as far as I have tested. The sheeps in the map are looking a bit static, but I guess it is meant this way. My Video-Adapter: NVIDIA RTX 5060 with only 8GB and highest resolution, 2500x1440.

Settlers of catan project is one biggest feats in rf1 existence -> would fit perfectly well into some Singleplayer content. Or goofing around with your stoned friends roleplaying . In terms of MP-viability..... sadly its 70fps stuttery unplayable mess. Personally i love old games because of their robustness,smoothness and technical stability which doesnt hinder your gameplay at any time. Current state makes this impossible to enjoy even on casual server :(. Its the same case as for majority of DVL maps... its hard to write this review. I think its very depressing/heart-brokening circumstance . I hope this and other maps can be fixed/tuned/reworked at some point - they deserve this.
