You're in your personal spaceship, on the way back to Earth from a business trip on Mars. Suddenly you come across a rogue temporal anomaly and your ship is pulled into its intense gravity. When you emerge on the other side, most of your ships systems are dead and you're on a collision course with Earth. No one is answering your hails and Earth looks weird for some reason. You enter the atmosphere and make an emergency a crash landing. You survive the crash but your ship is pretty much destroyed. You step out of your ship into an alien looking world, with the skyline dominated by fungal Prototaxites, rather than trees or skyscrapers. You now have a much bigger problem than a broken ship, you have arrived home 400 million years too early. Welcome to Earth's Early Devonian period!
I came across this Kurzgesagt video 2 weeks ago
https://youtu.be/NYNBAxDfgrY and thought the last setting from 6:40-10:00 would make a cool setting for a map and was somewhat doable in RF, so I gave it a go and this was the result.
No crazy event systems or interactivity in this map, just a basic DM map. However 3min 30sec into the map it does switch to a night-time look. Also the item pickup models for Medical Kit, Suit Repair, Super Health, Super Armour and Damage Amp, have been replaced with "medicinal" plant models I made, to better suit the map.
Other Deets:
- The skyboxes were made in Bryce.
- The Terrain was made in Bryce and then closed off into a box in Blender, then final tweaks done in RED.
- The Prototaxites were created in Bryce, then decimated, rigged and animated in Blender. Then exported as a sort of stop motion animation, since that’s all you can do with v3m files.
- The boulders were created in Bryce.
- The small trees were created in Bryce and then decimated the crap out of them in Blender, before bringing them into RF as meshes.
- The strange plant items, I made in RED then textured and converted to meshes with Blender, so I could use them as pickups.
- The spaceship model is by Psionic Games, which I made some changes to.

Other Notes:
- This map requires Alpine Faction 1.1 or newer (
https://alpinefaction.com) to run.
- It's a pretty hefty map; I get lows around 210 fps when viewing the whole map from a side. The 18 Bryce trees around the map total 25k faces, but are destroyable. Killing them all adds about 50fps of performance. So if your computer is really struggling, destroy all the trees.

Bugs:
- If you have your music volume setting turned all the way down before loading the map, the background music won’t play, even if you turn the setting back up after loading the map. It needs to have some volume prior to loading for the music to work.
