Pure Faction is a very old, outdated patch. GOLD UPDATE 1.0b brings many new features which were copied over from an unreleased project.

* Weapon camera shake is disabled by default. (Note. Camera shake is unfair, since it varies depending on FPS; and looks quite bad overall due to being poorly made. Ideally, a nice FPS independent camera shake could have been made; but I'm not going to make one.)
* Fixed loading screen freeze on Windows 7 and XP.
* Fixed Fast Multi option of PF Launcher causing a crash.

One of the main features of this [update] is the Windows 10 fix. There are new features that are on by default and you can use a console command to turn them on/off. I think changing the assault rifle's alt-fire to the primary fire button is a good option and it is on by default. If the user does not like this feature they can turn it off by using input_swap_assault_rifle_controls. I do not use the shotgun version of this command so I turned it off with input_swap_shotgun_controls

[After enabling Show Net Meter in F1 options], on the left part of my screen appeared a new net-meter and a FPS counter. This new net-meter is more aesthetic than Pure Faction's default and is more accurate. [...] You can use the FPS counter to troubleshoot your frames per second (FPS). Use the console command r_fps_override to change the FPS limit. It is important to mention that you can no longer use Pure Faction's F1 options menu Frame limit. You need to use r_fps_override

[...] During testing, no high FPS bugs were found using values at 240 or higher. If you are uncertain with what FPS to use I highly recommend r_fps_override 240 since most RF players' computers can take full advantage of it on all default maps and some custom.

con_color 100 70 28 197 is used to change the console color to Pastel Orange. (100, 70, and 28 are RGB values and the 197 modifies transparency). You can replace these values to get different colors. con_color -1 returns it to the default.

[Gold Update] also features:

-When you first start PF and load the server list, it retrieves servers from both the FactionFiles/Pure Faction tracker and the rolph tracker formerly known as the Default tracker.

-True widescreen mode.

-Servers always arranged by player count and when you leave a server it takes you back to the server list. (Default RF takes you to the main menu).

-If you run this as a server, the amp timer is always supposed to be correct.

-"New Player" sound is played when RF is minimized.

-F.lux support: If you install F.lux, you can play RF with flux running. This Addon ensures that flux always loads when the game is launched, does not turn off RF's gamma/brightness (in RF options), and has a console command r_flux to toggle it on/off. This is one of the coolest features I have seen in a RF client.

f.lux is a cross-platform computer program that adjusts a display's color temperature according to location and time of day. The program was designed to reduce eye strain during night-time use and reduce disruption of sleep patterns. This program has similar purpose and functionality to Apple's Night Shift and Microsofts Night light. Website: www.justgetflux.com

-If you type in a command and a question mark after it, it will reveal the current setting so if you type in con_color ? into the console, then it will feed you back "con_color is 0 150 255 200" (or whatever RGB color you set your console color to).

Tip: Type help into the console to see a list of all commands. Page up and Page down buttons will reveal all of them. When you enter a command it will tell you if it is on or not. Press the END button to exit scroll mode in console.

A lot of bugs happened to me

-when trying to talk I got the old "you cannot talk for 1 second"
-couldn't reload sometimes
-couldn't respawn (had to leave the game and come back
-weapon wouldn't fire sometimes.

It seems like it has potential.

I would make a lot of those options like changing chat color, swapping AR and shotty fire buttons, console colors, etc. into buttons instead of console commands.

Are you sure they aren't PF bugs? I can't reproduce them. I don't even know how the porting process would lead to those bugs.

I tried this out. Pretty good so far.

But I also got the same bug of "you can't talk for 1 second" which never went away so I was unable to chat to anyone.

I got one other bug. My weapons got a permanent muzzle flash and then I wasn't able to fire any weapons at all, just click sound like out of ammo.

Only came good after I either suicide or rejoined the game. The chat bug seemed to had initiated this one, happen instantly after trying to post a chat message without firing the weapon.

Can you add the ability to swap fire modes back to default for the shotgun? I use the 2 round shot as my preferred mode.

One thing I have always wanted to see in a patch or update is a bit of a rework of the graphics engine, mainly the way lighting and textures are handled in RF.

It was very poor even for 2001 standards, texture filtering is very shite indeed, same poor for even its day. They are very staggered in shading and the colour depth, gama etc is all pretty shite.
Good example of these issues it lack of shadow and no ability to make black.

Also complete lack of bump mapping also doesn't help, surfaces look flat as matte paint. Some basic reflections would be cool.

glare, volumetric lighting effects, fogging and weapon molding is very good though. And raw polys is not bad either. The texture res is pretty decent too, so fine detail has always been a strong point of RF just spoiled by the flatness and lack of dynamics.

Keep up the good work though :D

OS maybe? I run 7 x64.

Maybe even hardware? I know back in the day of map making I had to check my maps on different systems and over net as well as local to make sure the textures worked and ahh? movers? worked right. Different hardware often got way different results, especially GPUs and texture mapping. Also weird crap like different CPUs make certain characters fit or not fit through though narrow spaces, different running speed, water issues and feet getting stuck in solid brushes in mid air etc..

Also any chance you could make a GUI for all the available commands? or in the launcher for most common settings? I like dash faction for this. Its launcher has a more tweaking option you can just tick, especially rendering related items.

Sort of unrelated, but how many servers should come up in the browser? I only get 6 but it tries to ping 21.

One thing I have noticed is this Gold update the launcher does check for updates successfully but the official PF 3.0e fails to connect to the exact same tracker ?? How is it the regular PF doesn't ever seem to work in this regard? Even Dash checks updates correctly and its not supported anymore as far as I know.

Gold Update will not be developed; just maintained

PF server tracker has lots of manually added servers that are no longer up

Gold Update doesn't support updates through launcher

not sure if its because I just installed it or what, but it has vsync checkmarked by default in launcher

so if I were to make this my main game client, I would want to make a shortcut to "PFGoldUpdateLauncher.exe" and put it on my desktop?

Should have same settings as seen in PFLauncher

Shortcut, task bar, start menu, whichever you use to launch; there is no installer to automate this part

That quote is old; and those relevant changes have been added to the main changelog in the original post

The freeze on the loading screen is already fixed; and as for this some kind of exotic chat timer related bug I have a guess what it is; and it will have to be fixed later on
