This really isn't a post about mod requests or anything, but since the death of the company that made RFG most mods and other things related have faded away. I recently got an urge to play the game again and I'm looking for the old sandbox mods and other type of things that I used to use. I can't find them!

Also all the things the community was in the middle of making, it all just stops and it's like the world forgot about this game completely.

Anyone know where I can find some of the old mods? Like neutralizing the player's side, unlimited ammo and other things like that? I've even found mods to this site that are only accessible by a link on facepunch. It's so depressing!

There were a few mods on this site that the authors asked to be removed from public access (for one reason or another). There was also some guy who took control of the RFG section on some file host (filefront?) and uploaded a bunch of stuff there, instead of putting them on this site which was basically the established RFG file resource. Anyway, you may want to try and track that down.

There was also one guy who hosted some mods from the very beginning when the first mods were being made in IRC. I'll try to track him or his website down and see if there's still anything there.

Honestly, a lot of the world did forget about RFG. The multiplayer started dying out (purely coincidentally) when people were working on some of the more advanced things like a level editor.

Okay, I found NBtX's RFG site, but I don't think there's anything there that we don't have besides maybe a few videos. http://nbtxathcx.net/rfg/

Also found the FileFront site: http://redfaction.filefront.com/files/Red_Faction_Guerrilla/Mods;11671

Thanks very much for the response. I wasn't sure if anyone was really live and kicking here. It's such a shame, Geomod 2 had so much to live for. I saw those pages but they didn't have much of what I used to use a lot. I'm working on learning how to mod the game myself to edit squads and such. However, I run into issues packing the files back up, the Gibbed tool crashes before it packs.

The versions of Gibbed's tools on this site are pretty outdated. I think there are pre-compiled copies on his SVN server, so you may want to grab those if you haven't already.

I remember some idiosyncrasy with the game refusing to load one of the main vpp_pc files (misc?) if the compression setting wasn't set properly. Unfortunately, I don't remember the setting that was required, although that shouldn't be crashing the packfile tools themselves. Is there any debug output before the crash?

I may have found a way around it with the tools found in the YFG: your faction guerilla. Unfortunately I've had no luck in my venture and nothing's changed. Seems trying to disable all NPC activity or alert levels have failed. I saw one person on youtube who had luck in doing so but I could not duplicate his method due to me not knowing how.

On another note, do you know how to get to the mods on this site that aren't public?

I'll make the non-public ones public again when I have some time. The main reason people wanted me to remove them was because an updated version was coming... often times the updated version never came.

Try making a really obvious change (I can't think of a good example... maybe setting a vehicle speed really high or something) and see if it takes effect. My memory is a little sketchy, but I'm pretty sure people were deleting tables.vpp_pc, and since misc contained the same files, misc would override them and mods would work. I think that is an artifact from before the idiosyncrasy with the tables.vpp_pc compression was discovered. A lot of mods were made before that got figured out.

Obviously remember to make a backup if you start deleting game files! :P

The more I think about it, the more pieces of the puzzle I remember. I had a really good RFG modding thread that got stickied on the official forums. Unfortunately after some time I was unable to edit it because I got banned from the forums (still waiting for an explanation on that one!) and then of course the thread was completely lost when the forums went down. I can see the thread existed in various snapshots on archive.org but it's not actually readable due to an age gate THQ had set up.

Yeah, I don't recall deleting the tables file but I'm thinking with crinkle's your faction guerrilla, it automatically did that. He abandoned the project but it made it possible for me to compile the files through the new bat files included for the program unpacking and packing scripts.

I still don't understand the scale to which this game was forgotten, from what I could tell of the modding tools, it looked really promising for full mods, even though it's a hassle to do it's possible to do some big things. It's a real bummer the forums went down though, I was mad when I couldn't find them when I reinstalled last week.

Thanks for your help! Glad to see there is still some red faction floating around on message boards.
